DEVOTIONAL // A Sip Too Soon

Psalm 37:1-9

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: “Trust in the Lord, and do good; so you will live in the land, and enjoy security.” Psalm 37:3 (NRSV)

The fresh coffee tempts my taste buds, and I use all my willpower to refuse a drink. It is too hot, and I know I’ll regret the decision to burn my tongue for flavor.  When something good is in front of me, it’s hard to say no.  However, if I wait, I’ll experience more taste than temperature.  Sometimes we want good things—a job, a relationship, success—but they just don’t come.  It becomes easier to worry and harder to trust God, but He promises to take care of His children and deal with injustice.

If we align our hearts with His, He will give what we desire most; this all happens in His time, though.  I wave my hand over my cup—it’s just right.  A sip rewards my tongue with hot (not scalding) coffee.  Because I trusted and waited, it now comes without consequences and with greater rewards.

PRAYER: Father, remind me You know best and that I can trust Your timing and plan. Help me wait patiently.  In Jesus’ Name, amen.
